The ancient city of Rome is the capital and largest city in Italy. As would be expected from such an historically fascinating city, Rome attracts millions of both national and international visitors every year.

As well as those drawn by the wealth of historically and architecturally interesting sites and structures, the city attracts a large number of religious pilgrims. These mainly catholic travellers are drawn by the Vatican City, the home of the pope, which is located within the city.

To cater for this steady influx of visitors, there is a wide range of accommodation available within the city. As well as hotels and guest houses, there are a wide range of self catering villas and apartments available. Rome rentals vary in price, according to location and amenities available.

For example, those apartments located within walking distance of the most popular attractions and landmarks: such as the Colosseum and St. Peter's Basilica command a premium and are therefore very expensive. Likewise accommodation with views of the River Tiber or the Vatican.

It is, however, possible to find more affordable accommodation in Rome if you search hard enough. If you are prepared to stay a bit farther out of the city and off the beaten track, you might find adequate, though often more basic accommodation in the city's suburbs.

As would be expected from a major European city, Rome does provide an adequate public transport system to allow visitors to quickly and safely travel to all the main attractions and facilities.
